Sitting at your desk all day can get old, fast. When you’re sitting in a chair just trying to get stuff done, you’re likely all bunked up in your mind and you can’t think creatively. These simple yoga poses that you can do in your chair are going to really help de-stress and detoxify, and increase your mental capacity. Even holding each pose for as little as 10 second can make a big difference! Check out the poses below or watch them in action from our segment on CTV Ottawa Morning Live: http://bit.ly/2iILnAm

Eagle

  1. Put arms our in front. Bend right arm up at a 90-degree angle.
  2. Swipe left arm underneath the right and try to wrap it around so that your palms touch.
  3. Breathe is lifting your arms.
  4. Breathe out lowering your arms.

This exercise helps with shoulder capability, flexibility and range of motion in the rotator cuff. If you can’t wrap your left arm all the way around your right, that’s okay. Just try to reach as far as you can. Try leaning forward in this pose if you are also feeling tight in the back.

Triangle

  1. Bring your left hand down to your right calf or foot.
  2. Turn to extend your right arm up.
  3. Hold and repeat on other side.

This opens up your chest and stretches your laterals. Again, it’s okay if you can’t stretch your arm all the way down to your foot or extend all the way back, it’s just important to open up your chest as much as possible.

Big Toe to Hand Pose

  1. Grab the big toe of your right foot with the index fingers of your right hand.
  2. Sit up tall.
  3. Breathe in and extend the leg.
  4. Hold and then repeat with other side.

This is a good movement to stretch your hamstring and work the core with your upright position. If it’s not possible to extend your leg while holding your toe, simply holding your knee with both hands is a good alternative to feel similar results.

Camel

  1. Sit toward the front of your chair.
  2. Placing both hands on the chair behind you, extend your neck and drop your head back.

This one is all about your comfort. You don’t have to drop your head back all the way, just go as far as you are comfortable.

Half Lord of the Fishes

  1. Cross your legs with your right leg on top.
  2. Bring your left elbow to the outside of the right knee.
  3. Extend your right arm up.
  4. Hold and then repeat with the other side.

These twisting movements are almost like ringing out a wet towel. We have detoxification effects, we’re moving oxygen through the system and we’re renewing our energy.
